The Levels Tournament was held back in November and resulted in some exciting games.
The Singles event was split into 4 groups with the seeds cruising through this stage although the other two groups were closely fought. The semi-finals saw Lloyd Skinner (Queens) play Nic Williamson (Otter Vale) and John Carter (Sidmouth) play Tom Phillips (St Leonards) although both Lloyd and John managed to win their games in two. John was last in the Singles Final 22 years ago but despite his years of experience, the previous games had perhaps taken their toll as the younger Lloyd managed to take the title in two games, 21-17, 21-9.
Unfortunately both the Ladies Singles and Doubles were not competed for due to insufficient entries.
The Mens Doubles was also split into 4 groups with Lloyd Skinner partnering Rob Price (Queens) and John Carter partnering Martyn Schmidt (Sidmouth). The two pairs met in the semi final, with John & Martyn winning a closely fought match 21-15, 22-20. The other semi saw Exeter’s Rob Flack & John Collar beat St Leonards Tom Phillips & Charles Wardale 21-16, 21-17. The final was a great battle over 3 games, with John & Martyn taking to title 21-18, 16-21, 21-17.
The Mixed Doubles was only a group of 5 pairs with the youthful Queens pair of Jamie Dawe & Amy Housley winning 7 of their 8 games to take the title. Runners up were St Leonards Tom Phillips & Louise Gubbin who won 6 games overall but losing their game to Jamie & Amy 21-15, 21-19.
